The generation of foam is a common and troublesome issue during the production, polymerization, and subsequent processing of acrylic acid and its resins. Excessive foam not only reduces the effective volume of the reactor, leading to decreased production efficiency, but can also cause material overflow, increase losses, and even affect key final product properties such as gloss, uniformity, and adhesion. Traditional defoaming methods often offer only temporary effects or may introduce impurities, compromising product stability.
Addressing these industry pain points, Chemi Tech leverages profound surface chemistry expertise to develop a series of high-performance defoamers specifically for acrylic systems. Our solution is not merely about additive introduction but is based on a deep understanding of foam generation mechanisms. Foam in acrylic systems, often caused by monomer volatilization, gas entrainment from agitation, and side reactions, is characterized by high stability and easy regeneration. Chemi Tech defoamers achieve a balance of rapid penetration, efficient spreading, and persistent foam suppression through carefully selected modified polysiloxanes and special organic compounds.
Specific solutions and operational steps are as follows: First, conduct a diagnosis of the foam system. Based on production process temperature, pH value, and main foaming substances, recommend the most compatible defoamer type, such as CHEMI-TECH AF-301 (suited for medium-high temperature polymerization systems) or AF-302 (suited for later-stage processing and water-based systems). Second, provide precise guidance on addition points and dosage. It is typically added at the initial stage of polymerization or before the prone foaming phase, with a recommended dosage of 0.05%-0.3% of the total material. Finally, we emphasize the importance of pre-dispersion, guiding customers to pre-dilute the defoamer evenly with an appropriate amount of system solvent or material to ensure its quick and uniform distribution throughout the system for maximum effectiveness.
We assisted a synthetic materials production company in East China in resolving foam issues during their acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive production. The company consistently encountered foam during the coating process, leading to pinhole defects in the adhesive film. After analysis by the Chemi Tech technical team, the use of AF-302 defoamer was recommended, added at a 0.1% dosage in the later stage of the ingredient mixing phase. Following implementation, foam during production was controlled immediately and persistently. The adhesive film surface became smooth and even, product qualification rate significantly improved, and issues of workshop environment contamination and material waste due to foam overflow were avoided. The customer highly appreciated the lasting defoaming effect and the non-impact on product transparency.
Choosing Chemi Tech means you not only obtain an efficient defoamer product but also gain professional technical support from problem analysis to continuous optimization. We are committed to helping our customers achieve stable, efficient, and high-quality production processes.
