In the production, filling, and application processes of waterborne coatings, foam formation remains a core challenge that troubles many manufacturers. These stubborn foams not only affect production efficiency and packaging appearance but can also lead to surface defects such as craters and fisheyes in the final film, directly impacting the aesthetics and protective performance of the coating. Traditional defoaming methods often prove ineffective or introduce new issues like compatibility problems or even foam stabilization.
Addressing these market pain points, Chemi Tech leverages its professional R&D capabilities to offer a series of high-efficiency defoamers for waterborne coatings. Our solutions are based on a deep understanding of foam generation mechanisms. For the high-shear mixing stage during production, we recommend powerful de-foaming agents that can rapidly penetrate the foam lamella for quick bubble collapse. For the storage and application stages, persistent anti-foaming products are selected, which remain stable within the system to prevent foam reformation over time.
The application procedure is clear and straightforward. First, add 60%-70% of the total defoamer dosage during the early grinding and dispersion phase of production to suppress foam generation at the source. Next, incorporate the remaining 30%-40% during the let-down or adjustment stage to ensure a final balance between de-foaming and anti-foaming in the system. After addition, sufficient dispersion time is crucial; typically, 10-15 minutes of mixing under moderate shear is recommended to ensure uniform distribution and optimal performance of the defoamer.
We assisted a client specializing in industrial protective coatings who faced significant challenges. The customer experienced severe foam overflow during high-speed dispersion and numerous micro-bubbles during roller application of the final product. After analysis by the Chemi Tech technical team, a customized compound defoaming solution was provided: a silicone-modified defoamer was introduced at the grinding stage, complemented by a mineral oil-based defoamer at the let-down stage. Following this adjustment, the production process became smooth and stable, completely resolving the foam overflow issue. The resulting coating film was even and smooth, earning high recognition from the client for the improved product quality.
Choosing Chemi Tech means selecting a comprehensive foam control solution that covers the entire process from source to finish. Our products are not only highly effective but also prioritize long-term compatibility with coating systems, helping to avoid surface defects. We are a reliable partner in enhancing the overall competitiveness of your waterborne coatings.
