In the steel production process, from sintering, ironmaking, steelmaking to rolling, and circulating cooling, wastewater often contains oils, surfactants, suspended solids, and various additives. These substances readily cause massive, stubborn foam in treatment tanks, aeration basins, filtration systems, and discharge points. This foam not only overflows, creating environmental and safety hazards but also severely affects the accuracy of water quality monitoring, reduces chemical efficiency, hinders solid-liquid separation, and may damage pumps and valves. It becomes a key pain point constraining production stability and cost control.
Chemi Tech has a deep understanding of the water treatment challenges in the steel industry and is committed to developing targeted solutions. Our series of defoamer products are not generic formulas but are based on in-depth analysis of the complex components in steel plant wastewater. The products utilize specially modified polysiloxanes and high-efficiency dispersion technology, possessing dual efficacy of rapid foam breaking and persistent foam suppression. Their characteristics include: the ability to quickly penetrate and destroy the foam film structure, maintaining stable activity in high-temperature, high pH, and high electrolyte environments, and having good compatibility with the wastewater system without negatively impacting subsequent treatment processes.
Our solution steps are clear and easy to implement. First, our technical team conducts sample testing to analyze the cause of foam and water characteristics, recommending the most suitable defoamer model and initial injection point. Second, we provide precise dosage recommendations and dilution guidance, typically suggesting addition at the foam generation source or key process nodes (such as the aeration basin inlet or settling tank). Finally, we offer continuous application follow-up services, fine-tuning the solution based on actual operation to ensure long-term stable defoaming performance and optimal cost efficiency.
For instance, we served an integrated steel enterprise in North China employing advanced processes. The hot rolling wastewater line of this enterprise generated large amounts of viscous foam in the equalization tank and flotation unit due to residual process lubricants, severely affecting skimming efficiency and effluent clarity. After on-site diagnosis and laboratory reformulation by Chemi Tech's technical team, our high-temperature and high-shear resistant defoamer KT-321 was recommended. After the client began continuous addition at the flotation unit inlet at a ratio of 0.01%, foam was significantly controlled within 24 hours. The liquid surface regained clarity, the solid content in the skimmed sludge increased, the load on subsequent filtration units was reduced, and the overall water treatment efficiency improved by approximately 15%, with the comprehensive chemical usage cost being lower than the previous solution.
