In industries such as chemical processing, cleaning agents, and certain material manufacturing, highly alkaline working environments are commonplace. However, high-concentration alkali solutions can significantly destabilize ordinary defoamers, causing them to decompose or emulsify rapidly. The substantial amount of stubborn foam generated during production not only reduces equipment utilization and affects product quality but may also lead to overflow and safety risks, becoming a prominent pain point that restricts production efficiency and cost.
To address this core challenge, the Chemi Tech R&D team has conducted in-depth research. We found that the failure of defoaming in strong alkali systems primarily lies in the inability of traditional defoamer chemical structures to withstand continuous erosion by hydroxide ions. Therefore, the solution must start at the molecular design level to construct a highly stable defoaming system.
Our specific solution involves a four-step process. The first step is precise diagnosis, analyzing the alkali concentration, temperature, agitation intensity, and foaming substance composition in the customer's process. The second step is customized formulation. We select specially modified polyether siloxane composites as the core material, which exhibit extreme chemical inertness and can maintain structural integrity and activity for extended periods in environments with pH values as high as 14. The third step is process adaptation. We prepare the defoamer in a form suitable for the customer's dosing method (e.g., emulsion, paste) and determine the optimal addition point and dosage. The fourth step is continuous follow-up, providing on-site application guidance and monitoring long-term defoaming performance to ensure stability.
We once served a metal surface treatment additive producer based in East China. Their production line used concentrated potassium hydroxide solution at around 80°C, where severe foam overflow was a persistent issue. Various commercially available defoamers failed within a day or two. After applying Chemi Tech's strong alkali-resistant defoamer, foam was controlled immediately and persistently. The product remained stable and effective in the tank solution for over four weeks consecutively, with the effective dosage being only two-thirds of previous products.
