Foam is a persistent headache for technicians in bio-fermentation. Excessive foam occupies valuable vessel volume, causes broth overflow and material loss, reduces oxygen transfer efficiency, slows microbial metabolism, and ultimately drags down yield. Many production lines rely on frequent defoamer addition to manage foam, but overdosing can inhibit microbial activity or clog filtration membranes.
To address these pain points, Chemi Tech offers a dedicated series of defoamers for bio-fermentation, with a clear goal: minimal addition, rapid foam collapse, and zero negative impact on microbial growth. We avoid buzzwords and focus on practical approaches.
Our solution follows three steps:
Step 1: Diagnose foam type. Different strains generate different foam properties—yeast fermentation often produces viscous foam, while bacterial fermentation may create finer bubbles. Chemi Tech engineers conduct on-site sampling, analyzing foam particle size, surface tension, and stability to determine optimal defoamer polarity.
Step 2: Selection and matching. Based on diagnosis, we choose from polyether-based, ester-based, or hybrid types. For high-viscosity systems, polyether-modified silicone defoamers are recommended for their stability after high-temperature sterilization.
Step 3: Dosing process optimization. We recommend automated dosing systems with online foam height sensors for micro-adjustment. Chemi Tech provides injection point designs to avoid excessive mixing with the medium.
A case from an organic acid fermentation line: The plant previously used 12 kg of defoamer per batch, yet foam still overflowed periodically. After switching to Chemi Tech, dosage dropped to 4 kg per batch, foam control stabilized, dissolved oxygen efficiency increased by 15%, and filter membrane replacement intervals extended by 30%. No abnormal microbial activity was observed throughout.
This defoamer series undergoes rigorous compatibility testing before shipment and works with mainstream fermentation processes. Chemi Tech offers trial samples and technical support for rapid implementation. We don’t sell fluff—we solve real problems.
