In paint booth water circulation systems, continuous foam buildup occurs due to the mixing of paint mist, additives, and pump agitation. This foam reduces effective water volume, causes water curtain breaks, lowers paint mist capture efficiency, and can lead to pump cavitation and nozzle clogging, disrupting production flow.
Some defoamers on the market either act too slowly or cause foam to regenerate quickly after removal. Others cause suspended solids to aggregate, negatively impacting paint sludge dewatering and adding extra cost to waste treatment. The common demand from workshops is: fast foam breaking, long-lasting suppression, and no negative effect on sludge properties.
Chemi Tech has developed a specialized defoamer for paint booth water cycles. It uses a synergistic blend of polyol esters and polysiloxanes to rapidly rupture the composite foam film formed by paint mist and surfactants, eliminating foam within seconds. Its long-chain molecular structure builds a durable suppression network in the water, preventing foam resurgence. A single dose typically provides 4 to 8 hours of foam control, depending on water quality and operating conditions.
Operators can adopt the product without changing existing dosing procedures. The steps are as follows: First, install a simple dosing point at the water return or before the pump in the circulation tank. Second, add Chemi Tech defoamer at 0.05%-0.1% of the total circulating water volume in a single shot. Third, observe the foam layer; if it exceeds 3 cm, add an additional 0.02%-0.03%. For routine maintenance, check foam condition every shift and replenish half of the initial dose when foam reappears.
A vehicle parts coating line used Chemi Tech defoamer in its water curtain circulation tank. The line processed about 200 tons of water daily. Previously, workers had to manually skim foam every 2 hours, which was labor-intensive and ineffective. After adding 20 liters of defoamer on day one, the surface foam dissipated in under 2 minutes. Subsequently, 10 liters were added every 8 hours. After 30 days of continuous operation, no pipe blockages occurred, and the pressed sludge cake maintained a moisture content of 68%-72%, comparable to levels before defoamer use. The shift leader reported that maintenance intervals extended from weekly to monthly, and labor intensity dropped by approximately 70%.
Chemi Tech defoamer is suitable for both solvent-based and waterborne paint lines. It performs stably in circulating water with a pH range of 6 to 9, does not corrode equipment, and does not cause secondary adhesion. If you need to resolve persistent foam issues in your paint booth, contact us for a test sample or arrange an on-site engineer evaluation to tailor the dosing plan.
