Microbial contamination during architectural coatings production (e.g., raw material storage, grinding) causes viscosity loss and spoilage. A East China plant reported 15% batch rejection due to bacterial degradation in summer.
Dual mechanism:
Quaternary ammonium disrupts cell membranes;
Heterocyclic chains penetrate biofilms against Pseudomonas.
Stable at ≤80℃ for direct addition during grinding;
pH compatibility (4-10) for alkaline putty/neutral latex.
Originally, bacterial blooms in grinding tanks required monthly shutdowns. After adopting KMB-155:
Dosing: 0.1% at pigment grinding + 0.05% at resin mixing;
Bacterial count dropped from 10 to <102 CFU/mL;
Tank cleaning extended from 10 to 45 days;
Zero mold on coatings after 18-month aging.
Deployed in 12 plants with 85% spoilage reduction.
