In a sweltering workshop, Engineer Chen stopped the CNC machine for the third time. Grayish foam kept overflowing from the processing tank, wetting the precision guide rails and splashing onto the newly positioned workpiece. Wiping sweat from his forehead, he stared at the alarm signals flashing on the control panel—it was the fifth unplanned shutdown this week due to foam.
Previous defoamers he had tried either temporarily suppressed the foam before it rebounded or quickly failed in the high-speed circulating emulsion. Three months ago, Chen contacted Chemi Tech’s lab. Instead of immediately recommending a product, their technical team brought a portable foaming simulation device to the site, conducting repeated tests under varying pressures, temperatures, and flow rates to analyze the foaming characteristics of the cutting fluid.
“Foam is essentially a sign of systemic imbalance,” explained Chemi Tech’s specialist, pointing to the microscope display. “Traditional defoamers only temporarily break surface tension, but we need to find a lasting solution that matches your cutting fluid system.”
They discovered that the semi-synthetic cutting fluid used by the company contained special extreme pressure additives that antagonized conventional silicone defoamers. After seventeen formula adjustments, they finalized a composite defoamer based on polyether-modified silicone, using gradient emulsification technology to enhance its dispersion stability in the system.
The results were remarkable: at only two-thirds the dosage of traditional products, the system ran continuously for seventy-two hours without foam overflow, and the workpiece surface finish improved significantly. Today, Chen’s workshop has recorded sixty consecutive days without a single foam-related shutdown.
At Chemi Tech, we believe real breakthroughs come from attention to detail. Behind every defoamer lies a deep decoding of fluid dynamics and surface chemistry under specific working conditions.
