During the production and application of oil-based polyurethane coatings, adhesives, and potting compounds, persistent foam issues are a common frustration. These micro-bubbles not only cause surface defects such as pinholes and orange peel, severely affecting appearance and gloss, but also compromise the density, adhesion, and protective properties of the film, becoming a key pain point that drags down product grade and production efficiency.
Addressing this core need, Chemi Tech has dedicated itself to developing a series of high-efficiency oil-based polyurethane defoamers. Our solution is not merely about addition; it is based on a deep understanding of the foaming mechanism within polyurethane systems. Our products can rapidly penetrate bubble walls, reducing local surface tension to prompt quick thinning and rupture of the bubble film. Meanwhile, their excellent compatibility ensures effective defoaming without causing secondary issues like craters, fish-eyes, or affecting system transparency.
The specific application steps are clear and straightforward. First, during the production stage, we recommend adding the defoamer in two stages – before and after grinding and dispersion – with a total dosage typically between 0.1% and 0.5% of the formula weight. The first addition aims to eliminate the large amount of air introduced during grinding. The second addition occurs during the let-down or mixing stage, targeting micro-foam generated by stirring and remaining during subsequent standing. Second, for bubbles generated during application, a model with rapid bubble-breaking capability can be selected, added directly with moderate stirring. It is important for users to conduct small-scale tests based on their system's polarity, viscosity, and application process to determine the optimal product type and dosage.
We once assisted an electronic encapsulation material producer facing a critical challenge. The customer's potting compound consistently exhibited scattered internal bubbles after curing, affecting electrical insulation reliability. Through analysis, we recommended a specialty defoamer combining anti-foaming and bubble-breaking functions. Following our guided procedure, the client added it during the resin pre-mixing phase. After process adjustment, internal bubbles in the cured product were largely eliminated, product qualification rates improved significantly, and we earned the customer's ongoing trust.
Choosing Chemi Tech means opting for a reliable problem-solving pathway. Our technical team can provide targeted evaluation and recommendations, helping you completely overcome foam troubles in oil-based polyurethane systems and achieve a dual leap in both product appearance and intrinsic quality.
