In the production and application of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), the foam problem often becomes a core difficulty troubling producers. Excessive foam not only reduces the effective volume of the reactor and leads to lower production efficiency, but may also cause material overflow, resulting in raw material waste and on-site safety hazards. More seriously, foam hinders heat and mass transfer, affects the uniformity and stability of the polymerization reaction, and ultimately leads to fluctuations in product viscosity, reduced transparency or defects such as fish eyes, directly affecting product quality and customer trust.
Common defoamers on the market often have problems such as poor compatibility, insufficient persistence or an adverse effect on product transparency. In response to these pain points, the Chemi Tech R&D team has gone deep into PVA production systems and developed a series of dedicated defoaming solutions. Our solution is not simply the addition of an auxiliary agent, but a systematic solution path based on a deep understanding of the foam generation mechanism.
The specific solution is divided into three key steps. The first step is precise diagnosis: our technical engineers will analyze your production process, raw material characteristics and the specific stage where foam occurs (such as monomer feeding, polymerization or later-stage dehydration), to determine whether the main cause of the foam is surfactants, mechanical stirring or dissolved gas. The second step is formulation customization: we provide a variety of silicone-modified and polyether defoamers, and can screen out core products with both rapid foam-breaking and long-acting foam-suppression capabilities according to your system's pH value, temperature and shear force conditions, ensuring perfect compatibility with the PVA system without affecting final product performance. The third step is optimizing the addition process: we provide detailed guidance on the addition point, addition method (such as dripping or pumping) and recommended dosage, ensuring that the defoamer is efficiently dispersed in the system to achieve the best cost-effectiveness.
We once helped a polymer materials enterprise located in East China solve the stubborn foam problem in its PVA adhesive production. This enterprise experienced a sharp generation of foam during the high-speed stirring and heating stages, and the original defoamer's effect was short-lived. After our on-site assessment, we recommended the Chemi Tech DF-311 series and added it at two points in the middle and late stages of the reaction. After implementation, the effective utilization rate of the reactor increased by about 18%, the production cycle was shortened, the viscosity stability between product batches was significantly improved, and the customer was also very satisfied with the clarity of the final adhesive.
Choosing Chemi Tech means you gain not only an efficient defoamer product, but also a set of professional technical support from problem analysis to continuous optimization. We are committed to helping customers overcome production bottlenecks and achieve cost reduction, efficiency improvement and quality upgrading.
